MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT SUPPORT
When the Crash Is Over, the Healing Begins
We help you process trauma, anxiety, and emotional shock after an accident — in a safe, compassionate space.
The Hidden Impact of Motor Vehicle Accidents
The physical injuries are obvious — but the emotional aftermath can be harder to see. Shock, anxiety, hypervigilance, insomnia, depression, and panic are all common after a car accident. At Aref Psychotherapy, we offer specialized care to help you reclaim calm, safety, and emotional stability after trauma.

Insurance Coverage
What Your Auto Insurance Actually Covers
Most people never start therapy after a crash because they assume they will be paying for it. In Ontario, you usually will not.
Coverage applies even if the accident was your fault, and our team handles the treatment-plan paperwork with your insurer so you do not have to. Approval is still required, and insurers can request supporting medical information.
Getting Started
How to Start — 4 Simple Steps
No referral needed. No cost to find out whether we are the right fit.
What to Expect
What a Session Actually Looks Like
Fifty minutes, by secure video, from wherever you feel safe. The first session is about understanding what happened and how it is affecting you — no one will push you to relive the crash before you are ready.
From there your therapist may use EMDR or trauma-focused CBT — the two approaches with the strongest evidence for accident trauma — alongside practical work on sleep, driving anxiety, and getting back to daily life.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask us most before booking.
Does my insurance cover therapy after a car accident?
In most cases yes. In Ontario, therapy after a motor vehicle accident is generally covered through your auto insurance accident benefits, within a combined medical, rehabilitation and attendant care limit of $65,000 for non-catastrophic injuries. A treatment plan has to be submitted and approved — we take care of that step for you.
What if the accident was my fault?
You are still covered. Ontario accident benefits are no-fault, so you can access treatment through your own policy regardless of who caused the crash.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No referral is needed to book a free consultation with us. A treatment plan is submitted to your insurer for approval, and in some situations supporting medical information may be requested.
How soon after the accident should I start?
Earlier is generally better. Symptoms such as driving anxiety, poor sleep and intrusive memories are easier to treat before avoidance becomes established — but it is never too late, and people often begin months or years afterwards.
Can I do this if I am not in Toronto?
Yes. All of our sessions are virtual, so you can work with us from anywhere in Canada, in 14+ languages.
